Some Zoodles

I went on a brief zoo sketching trip a few weeks ago with a couple of talented dudes. and I finally scanned a couple of the drawings last night. I still have a lot more sketchbook pages to scan, so more doodles to come soon...

Peccaries!:

We realized that the male gerenuk has it made:

Zoo Sketches

Went sketching at the zoo this weekend with Carrie Liao, Alice Herring, and Le Tang. Here are a few pages of doodles (again I touched some of these up with digital color).

Gerenuks are some of my favorite animals to draw:

The sleeping lioness and the creeper gerenuk. One of the gerenuks was spying on its pen mates from behind some rocks:

Normal giraffes, chubby giraffes...:

And a page of zebras:

Some of you guys have asked what pens I like to use for sketching. My current fave is the Pentel Sign Pen with a Brush Tip:

I also like using Sakura gel pens, and the Pentel Pocket Brush for looser sketching/adding black fills, etc.:

And last but not least, this week's drawing challenge topic is Obsessive Pokémon!

Zoo Drawings

I went to the LA zoo today with some friends from Titmouse. It was a lot of fun and I hope to do this more often. My animal drawing is rusty at best, but I found some pages to post. I will return to the LA zoo for round 2 this Saturday, with school friends (anyone who wants to meet us there is welcome! We'll probably be there around noon).

Alligators:

The koalas were awake when we got to their enclosure! And posing like Betty Paige no less:

Sadly only 1 giraffe drawing done. We got to the enclosure shortly before closing and we saw him for maybe two freaking minutes before they put him away.

Gerenuks:

Gorillas are cool! Alas, I suck at drawing them:

I drew these flamingos from memory and colored it with a highlighter and a couple of markers. It's a fun time of the year to draw flamingos at the zoo. Normally I skip over them because they're so smelly, but it's mating season and the males are now doing their courtship displays/fighting with each other for female attention:
